![]() ![]() Hence the question, why should I care about a gang of Robin Hoods who rob corporations? Is it because a bunch of corporations have screwed over most of the real world? Maybe I should ignore the fact that they still kill innocent people. We’re already exposed to the most current ideas. With the advent of the internet, we obtain instant gratification and thus grow more weary and bored. Before action movies with Keanu, Arnold and Sly, we had John Wayne or Paul Newman who just pulled triggers and rode horses. In the 90’s, a group of action junkies robbing banks was a novel idea because we didn’t have the internet. ![]() Why would you use the term “extreme sports athletes” instead of adrenaline junkies, daredevils, skydivers, air acrobats, pro aerialists, athlete aerialists or my favorite term, “criminals”.Ī big reason this film doesn’t work is because it is set in the here and now. This gang and their leader, Bodhi, are extreme sports athletes similar to Utah. An FBI agent with the last name Utah joins a gang of thieves who target corporations. Some trailers entice us into watching a movie, some make us realize this is a film we never need to see, and this trailer is definitely the latter. This Point Break is directed by Ericson Core and stars Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez. The trailer seems to be trying to cram as many extreme sports shots into two and a half minutes, while occasionally throwing up a few random bits of a confusing plot. The trouble is, that this Point Break loses its direction. In a way, that's a good thing, because Point Break (the original) was perfect just as it was. In fact, all that really remains of the original are the names of the two lead characters. There's a bigger, more fearsome FBI and the crimes of Bodhi and his gang are on a much larger scale. There are more sports, such as wing suit flying, free rock climbing, skateboarding, and of course, surfing. In the case of Point Break, it's going bigger, better, and more extreme than the original. As with a lot of remakes, the director here, Ericson Core, has tried to put his own stamp on it. What's not to love? Perhaps understandably, I was not happy when news of a remake surfaced. I love and adore Point Break, because it combines two of my great loves surfing and Patrick Swayze. For whatever reason, though largely down to the performance of its two leads, absolutely everything fell into place with Point Break and it has since gone on to become (deservingly) a cult classic. Starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, it was one of those movies that just worked. ![]() Point Break was a big hit upon its release back in 1991. Gerard Butler was originally cast as Bodhi, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.Įdgar Ramirez, who plays Bodhi, admitted he is a fan of the original movie but added that he didn't go back to it to prepare for this role, since he thinks the late Patrick Swayze did something 'totally unique' with the role the first time around Some of the best extreme sports athletes in the world appear in this Point Break remake, including wing suit athlete Jeb Corliss, surfers Laird John Hamilton and Sebastian Zietz, and pro skateboarder Bob Burnquist.įilming at Angel Falls was an expensive thing to do, including building a special platform at a cost of $500,000.
